A huge swarm of Swarming Leaf Gobblers (locusts) appear in The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island as the tertiary antagonists, and the main drivers of the plot. They scour the land searching for food, and when they find it, every last leaf is stripped from trees and bushes. At one point in progress, one Leaf Gobbler lands on Littlefoot's nose unintentionally scaring him and then flies off when he runs away to hide in the log.
History[]
Early in the film, Grandpa Longneck sees them in the distance, believing it is sky water, but realizes it is something terrible. The swarm of locusts end up devouring almost every last leaf in the once lush Great Valley, shocking Topsy who was in the middle of eating his own leaves, scaring some other dinosaurs (with Spike trying to hide behind the bush and Littlefoot and Ducky hiding in the log, but with Cera stuck at its end), making Petrie crash on one of the trees and forcing the herds to leave the next day. They move through a land that had recently become a desert; all the food in the area had been eaten by the locusts. They do not make a further appearance.
