I have a lot of scenes filmed so far, but I don't have a real plot in mind yet; all I know is that I want:
1.) a rural/suburban North American setting that isn't in New England and/or eastern Canada (I'm torn between the midwest, Appalachia and Mexico)
2.) dinosaurs roaming around in the wilds and occasionally colliding with the edges of civilization, like in JW3 - torn between this being the main premise or just a subplot, either way the movie opens on this note)
3.) the return of Xerax and Charming (Charming is in the first scene, he kills an innocent man and his husky)
JUNGLE BOOK (2001? 1994? EITHER WAY, IT'S THE GOODTIMES/JETLAG/CAYRE BROTHERS VERSION, NOT EITHER OF THE DISNEY ONES OR THAT NETFLIX ONE) notes
edit: oh no, it starts
edit 2: the animation is somewhere between Dink the Dinosaur and some anime
edit 3: nevermind, this us between Dink and Hotel Mario; the song isn't helping
edit 4: that's a husky, not a wolf; why's it blue
screw it, i'm taking notes
this animation is comedy in of itself
tabaqui is all i remember from this
WHAT IS THIS DESIGN? WHAT IS THIS VOICE
he didn't even eat the bone, he just sucked on it
is this dialogue just ripped from the novel, or is it actually not awful?
pappy wolf, how do you know what's going on over there?
how is that bone still in tabaqi's mouth?
yeah, he looks like a frog
DEAR PESKY DOGGERS
shere khan looks... cool for a product of some korean cheapo thing
they keep calling shira khan lame
shira's voice is cool, even though the acting isn't great
the background music is... fitting
mowgli is as naked as shira is lame
baggy dont look good
tabaqi isn't a jackal, he's a cheetahfox hyena
akela sounds goOD
shira khan looks and kind of sounds like bowser
ONe of the wolves just goes swoosh on its butt
hmmmm sexy baghera saxophone
he looks like something out of dora the explorer
STOP PLAYING THE SEXOPHONE
i like balo's hair
uh... mowgli has a diaper on
baggy can actually pronounce "shere khan"
better human than i could draw but...
the songs aren't the worst i've heard... but...
nothing is happening; it's just bagy and baloo sitting and mowgli... running
uh... we just... saw this animation of mowgli swinging
mowgli straddles the line of cute and creepy-looking
the bandarlog look like little sasquatches with tails
the slowest chase of all
yes, my favorite jungle book character, bird
huh, the lip syncing actually isn't too unfitting
i like that they specify that kaa is a rock python
and baloo's bunny tail
"he looks hungry!" he's sleeping
don't call kaa a worm
THE BIRD's VOICE
the kaa scene is actually not bad, even if the animation is still...
little mouth mogie
king louie? is that you?
he's not THAT frog-like anymore
THEY'RE GINORMOUS WTF
sexy saxophone over bagheera assaulting bing blouie's troop and vice versa
this is a sims 2 fight
the snakes are deflated and then come right back
kaa's eyes have all of the super emeralds
yes, snake vore in my jungle book cartoon
I think this is a straight adaption of the book(s)
there are green wolves
also this was really stupidly sudden
now baggy's pronouncing it "shira khan"!
STOP CALLING SHIRA LAME
baggy doesn't have nostrils
the guy running off is a little amusing... too bad it's deflated by mowgli's nipnops and liplops
this part from the book must be what inspired the 2016 movie
tabaqi's laugh is just a hyena
akela was tricked? when?
shira khan is my favorite thing about this
mowgli's ranting sounds like book fodder
shira khan sounds so much like bowser it's ludicrous
are you trying to tell me that mowgli's never stubbed his toe and shed tears?
that was brief
the non-mowgli humans actually look decent
this boy has never watched tlw:jp, if he gives him bread a bunch more mowglis will tear him apart
i feel like i recognize a couple of voice actors here
are they giving mowgli dog food
of the songs, I think this is the best... not good but straddling mediocre and okay
shanti? is that you?
is it indian culture to shame people over helping people who aren't on the same plane as you?
is "old man" mad at mowgli for insulting him or for having the gall to call bullcrap on his stories?
what's the indian cattle breed with the stripey horns?
who names their kid "gray wolf"?
going back to the wacky wolf design after the decent humans is jarring
SHIRA KHAN LOOKS JUST LIKE HOTEL MARIO BOWSER HERE
I'm pretty confident this is from the books
silly comedy animation on shere khan mere moments before he gets simultaneously trampled and speared to death
i didn't even notice baloo was absent for so long
did akela even live to this point in the books?
speaking of akela, his voice reminds me of a wizard
the bad wolf bouncing animation is back
mowgli staying with his family while not also razing the man village is like the 2016 version
that wasn't at all frustrating, but it was so badly made that it was entertaining; 3.5/10
given how japanese the credits are, I'm inclined to call this an anime
there are also a lot of english/american names in this
I know gary chalk from the sonic cartoons, I swear I recognize the names kathleen barr, ian corlett and phil hayes
at the very least, this was a lot more credible than 'dinosaur adventure' or other, more bootleg-y productions - then again, that's helped by this being more a straight adaption of the books than a knockoff of disney's work
After some thinking, I have to say that, once you look past the animation (which is... hard...), it isn't actually all that bad.
Mind you, it's still bad, but not really awful or offensively so (after all, I still though it was a fun watch) - I think a 4/10 or 4.5/10 might be a little more fititng.
and am planning on rewatching the short movie with the Boneknapper and HTTYD2 tomorrow (I'm probably going to end up watching HTTYD3 a couple of days after it comes out, I doubt I'll get to see it on the day of its wide release... no, the fact I'm talking about HTTYD in general isn't your ticket to start talking about the new movie here, I don't want to repeat what happened with the second movie on my end).
I think the fact that my biggest problem with the movie is that the rendering on the humans isn't perfect says something.
It's described as a "baby" in the title of the paper and is described as "very young" in its actual contents, putting the skeletal reconstruction in Blender and scaling the scalebar to 10cm indicates that it's still more or less the size of a Velociraptor (heightwise; it was a little over four feet long, about as tall as a v'raptor at the back, and it'd have to bend its neck down a little to look the raptor in the eye).
What are the chances this is a young of another freak giant oviraptorid like Gigantoraptor?
Nate56mate wrote: It Could Be Another Species of Gigantoraptor
Playing around in Blender a little bit has made me reconsider this a little bit (take the following with a lot of salt, I got this from what I think makes sense and isn't really based off of anything definite); I think the chances are a little more in favor of adult Gobiraptor being more in the 13 - 20ft range (depending on how young the baby is, I'm leaning towards the lower number) than the 26ft+ range.
Not Gigantoraptor size, but somewhere between it and an Anzu, and still reason that "minutus" might not be the most fitting of specific names.
I've decided to have a little stupid fun and see what would happen if I took the size disparity between Baby Louie - a Beibeilong so young that he didn't even hatch yet - and his presumably-26ft parents and applied it to Gobiraptor.
