Notes
Caution should be taken in accepting identifications given in scripts and production materials as concrete.
- The script for the original The Land Before Time refers to the dome-headed dinosaurs that threaten Cera in the Mountains that Burn as Pachycephalosaurus.[29]
- Likewise, the script for the original The Land Before Time refers to Littlefoot's would-be egg thief as an Ornithomimus, even though it is identical to the dinosaurs identified in the second movie as Struthiomimus.[30]
- Though there is no known surviving official material referring to him as such, there is anecdotal evidence of the old The Land Before Time website referring to Guido as a Microraptor gui.[31]
- Storyboards for "The Brave Longneck Scheme" refer to the Sharpteeth that appear in Rhett's tall tales as T. rex.[32]
- Some production materials for the original The Land Before Time, including the script and certain pieces of concept art, refer to Ducky and her family as Anatosaurus.[33][34]
- The Land Before Time III's script refers to Hyp and Mutt as "Hypsilophondon" and Muttaburrasaurus respectively.[35]
- Though Nod's name can be construed as a pun on Nodosaurus,[36] the final draft of The Land Before Time III's script refers to Nod as a Panoplosaurus, another genus of nodosaur.[35]
- Comments made by a storyboard artist for The Land Before Time: Journey of the Brave indicate that the Featherhead Sharpteeth were meant to represent Allosaurus at some point in production.[37] Their final designs, however, much more closely resemble the feathered theropod Yutyrannus.

"Smaller than his larger cohorts, Hyp (Hypsilophondon) is a bully to the max. Lording over others, especially those smaller than him, is his favorite pastime. His one real asset is his nimble movement and sprinting ability--a specialty of his kind. NOD, a Panoplosaurus nodosaur, is nervous and fast-talking (think Cowardly Lion) while MUTT is a slow moving and thinking Muttaburrasaurus." - ↑ The Land Before Time Glossary - The Gang of Five forum
