Theropods are a suborder of dinosaurs, believed to belong to the order Saurischia (though some have recently suggested theropods are members of a different group, "Ornithoscelida"). Theropods are bipedal, and highly variable in size, lifestyle and diet, with extremes ranging from the diminutive, chicken sized, nectar-eating Mellisuga helenae to the gigantic, piscivorous Spinosaurus aegyptiacus. Well-known non-avian theropods include Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptor, and Allosaurus.

Theropods, specifically members of the class Aves (modern birds) are the only dinosaurs known to have survived past the K/Pg mass extinction and to the present day.
